MBA Infomation for Indian Students

More than 80,000 students come abroad to US from India every year. Maximum number of them land here in California. Majority of these come in for business studies, either Bachelors or Masters. In this post we will be focusing on Universities in California offering MBA courses. We are also trying to interview a couple of recruiters and post those interviews here for you all to read. So lets start with the list of top 5. The following list is from a global ranking list.

Univ Name     2006 Rank     International Students
1)Stanford         3                 39%

2)Haas             16                 37%

3)UCLA            19                 26%

4)USC              54                 22%

5)UC Davis        79                 17%

The above mentioned 5 universities are very hard to get into and require an average of 3 years work experience. Any students applying to these universities without work experience have very little chance if any of getting accepted. Applying to universities is an expensive proposition for indian students keeping the exchange rate in mind. So be sure that you meet the minimum requirements for the universities you are applying for. Also if you are hoping to get scholarships, then these universities rarely offer scholarships to international students.

Universities in the UC system i.e. University of California do not offer scholarships to international students in the first year making the endeavour that much more expensiveOneof the universities know be more liberal with scholarships in its MBA programs is Pepperdine University. The Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine is liberal with its scholarships if you exceed a score of 700. To get more information visit Pepperdine

Feel free to ask me questions in this post about various MBA programs. We will soon be moving to the east coast schools and try and provide some insider information on those as well.

Can you provide more information about financial aid for international students

Hey friends, sorry for the delayed response. Work has been really busy of late and I haven't been able to post any more information. Before I get into the scholarship question let me tell you all that we are planning a really good treat for you all. I have contacted recruiters at different universities and will be interviewing them. I will be asking the recruiters what do US universities and recruiters look for in international students and specifically students from India. What are the major considerations for granting admissions and scholarships. This will help you all to prepare your applications better. I hope to get the first interview on study abroad posted on the blog in the next couple of weeks.

Coming back to the question on scholarships. US is not a cheap place to study in, but it is also not the most expensive. The main reason for this is that universities are liberal with the grants. More than 25% of the international students are able to obtain some sort of grant or scholarship. The majority of these scholarships are secured by students from India and China.

Fullbright scholarship, Rotary international and rotary foundation, Soros foundation etc are great resources to apply to scholarhships for. The standards are very high and the competition to secure these grants is extreme, but worth it in the end. You can also check out a lot of website which maintain databases on all kinds of scholarships like FundingUSstudy.org, NAFSA, eduPass etc. Check these sites and organizations for lot of opportunities which are out there.

The above are obviously in addition to the scholarships awarded by universities themselves. Just to give you an idea, University of Colorada, Denver awarded scholarships to 118 of the 179 international students that were enrolled there. So do your research and be sure that when you come abroad to study, you are paying no more than you really have to.

I will add more information on scholarships in the coming days and also talk to students who are here on scholarships and completing their MS in various universities with 110% scholarships. Now wouldn't that be nice!!

Hey guys! wat you al doing for freshers is really nice..i appreciate it...I hav applied for MBA in fall 2006 to US.I wanted to know whether pepperdine uni- graziadio skool of business has indians ard...pls help out...i really need to know at the earliest...got my make my decision soon

Hi - I am not 100% sure I understood your question. Pepperdine does have international students (approx. 25-30%) and some of them are from India. The MBA program generally gets 5-7 students from India every year. In addition there are 15 odd students in the undergrad program as well. Drop us a line if you need any more information.

Hi...thank for d help regarding pepperdine...actually the deal is i had almost finalised on pepperdine uni but one day i found out that there are very Indians residing in Malibu as well in the Uni. This got me a little worried. As i think iz important to have Indians around wher u live and study. Neways if u kno ne Indians who hav graduated frm pepperdine or r currently studyin ther wud it b possible 2 gimme their contact no or mail id..nethin??
Once thank you for answering my Question

It is true that there are not too many Indians in Malibu and not that many doing their MBA at Pepperdine. However as I mentioned before there are a few students from India every year. Also most of the students stay in nearby cities like Canoga Park and Woodland Hills. There are nice Indian stores for food and grocery there and also a sizeable Indian population. One cinema close by also shows Indian movies which tells you there are a lot of Indians in the area even if they are not in Malibu. So I would not change my decision to study based on number of Indians. Hope this helps.

hey ...i choose Uni os San Francisco over Pepperdine. Do u kno nebody from ther? how is the skool? if u kno ne students frm bombay comin the pls leme kno.
